Installation

Installation
Most installations involve a galvanized steel tower, wide at the base and tapering to the top upon which the wind turbine itself is mounted. The height of the tower is dependent on the size of the turbine, the wind conditions, topography of the area and other factors. The tower is bolted to a strong base which is set in concrete in the ground. If you wish to do the groundwork yourself, we will send you a Foundation Pack to guide you through the installation of the base plate. Alternatively we can install it for you.
Electrical services are connected through the inside of the tower to the turbine. All ducting must be in place to take the electricity cables through to the inverter. The Distribution Network Operator (DNO, the people responsible for the grid in your area), who will have given their permission for the “Grid Connection” to take place, will fit your export meter.
Once installed it is important that maintenance can be carried out. In some cases the tower is hinged in such a way that the tower can be lowered to ground for the necessary routine maintenance, and in others a service platform is sited just below the hub and maintenance is carried out in situ.
We provide expert advice on all aspects of the installation, including the selection of an appropriate turbine, the height of the tower, siting etc. through our on site survey (click here for details).
Please bear in mind that we will need to have motorised access to the site and enough land to lie the turbine flat before it is winched into place!
